Behind the scenes of work experience at Liquid
In January, Arya Nayyar joined us for three weeks of work experience to broaden her knowledge of PR and communications before starting university. Here, she reflects on her time with us and what she learnt.
“Working at Liquid for three weeks has been an invaluable experience, not only due to what I learnt but also because of the people that I met.
“Coming onto the scene as an 18-year-old looking to gain work experience before university, with no prior experience of PR, was definitely daunting. I was aware of what I had applied for and I was determined to throw myself into it, but that didn’t make it any less nerve-wracking! However, immediately upon walking into the office, I was shown around and introduced to everyone before going over my task list for the week, which consisted of a varied range of briefs with different people.
“In truth, it didn’t take long for me to feel comfortable and fall into a routine of coming into the office and getting stuck in. The hot desking in the office meant that I was constantly able to get to know different people and find out a little more about life at Liquid as I experienced it for myself. One thing that struck me was everyone’s belief in my capability to carry out the tasks independently, with someone always being available to support me when necessary. The team was a pleasure to work with and I found everyone so approachable and friendly, with people making an effort to teach me valuable skills.
“My time at Liquid saw me experience brainstorming for PR campaigns, writing blogs for Liquid and articles for local media, pitching to journalists, content creation, social media and much more. There were opportunities to work in a diverse range of fields, from food to property management, and I quickly came to realise just how expansive Liquid’s expertise is – with the PR, marketing, design, digital and social media teams all coming together within the agency.
“I’m relieved to say that I was never stuck with who to speak to, thanks to my wonderful mentor, Jess, who checked in on me and answered any queries. She also organised meetings with people from different teams to allow me to speak to people with different backgrounds and focuses.
“As well as learning a great deal, I’m also coming away from the experience with a portfolio of pieces I have worked on, which I can build on as I strengthen the skills I’ve developed. But perhaps the biggest reason why I’ve loved my time here is that I’ve had fun! There are plenty of perks of being at Liquid, such as flexible hours and weekly yoga sessions, and I definitely made the most of having development chef, Olivier, in the kitchen – and his delicious creations.
“In a nutshell, my time at Liquid has been nothing short of a delight and I can’t wait to put what I’ve learnt into practice one day!”
