Celebrating fearless females for International Women’s Day
For International Women’s Day this Sunday, we’re shining a light on strong women in the Liquid team and sharing their top tips for those who want to succeed in PR.
Liquid celebrates equal opportunities: we have a gender balance on the board of directors and hard work, talent and ambition are key to success, regardless of gender.
Words of wisdom
CEO Lis Lewis-Jones founded Liquid more than 15 years ago in a room above her mother’s garage. From there, the award-winning consultancy has grown, fuelled by hard work and lots of determination. Lis believes honesty, transparency and integrity are essential to getting ahead in this industry, and that includes being honest when you don’t have all the answers. Lis says:
“Never pretend you know it all. Ask for help and push yourself out of your comfort zone – it’s only by challenging yourself and by seeking advice that you learn and improve.”
Lis also shared her essential tips for making a great first impression when applying for work placements or internships. Be sure to read up on them before putting in your application and you’ll be set for success.
Our Channel Islands director, Lisa Downes, was recently named PRCA City and Financial Professional of the Year and is a specialist in crisis communications. Lisa says respect and a positive attitude are vital in building lasting relationships. Lisa says:
“Treat people the way you would expect to be treated – your colleagues, clients, journalists, partners and suppliers. By never losing sight of this, you’ll foster strong, long-lasting relationships that are a pleasure to be a part of and people will enjoy working with you.”
Women who dared to dream
As well as celebrating women in PR, we’re also looking back at an example of celebrating women with PR. We previously joined forces with Birmingham City Council to mark the centenary of women winning the right to vote.
To coincide with the release of the city council’s book, “Once Upon A Time In Birmingham: Women Who Dared To Dream” and International Women’s Day, we created a giant replica of the book and installed it in Victoria Square.
The super-sized version of the book was positioned at eye level for the affectionately named “Floozie in the Jaccuzi” sculpture. Supported by a social media campaign, book shop events and press releases, the stunt helped to raise the profile of this inspiring book.
